Heavenly BlueHeavenly Blue is a cultivar of Ipomoea tricolor. As such, the leaves and stems are smooth. I planted these along the Northern front fence. This area gets mixed shade. Some of these plants are getting full sun from 7:30AM till 3PM. Others only get full sun from 10AM to 2PM. The ones getting less sun are growing just as well but are flowering less. I caught this Heavenly Blue hypocotyl emerging one morning although the lighting was not very good. Look closely above the "2" for a light colored area. That is the stem which is still curled over. ![]() The cotyledon leaves of cultivars of Ipomoea tricolor are have longer and thinner lobes than the more common Ipomoea purpurea. This is the next day. The leaves have not begun to unfold. You can see that their underside is still purple/brown. ![]() Following is actually another plant where the leaves have unfolded. The cotyledon leaves of cultivars of Ipomoea tricolor are have longer and thinner lobes than the more common Ipomoea purpurea which look like butterflies. ![]() |
