Milky Way

Milky Way

In addition to being a candy bar and the name of both our galaxy and the corresponding glow in the night sky, Milky Way is a cultivar of I. purpurea. They have white blooms with a red star. The leaves are heart-shaped.

I planted these along the front fence but only a few germinated and only this one plant survived. Actually, I thought that they had all died. This one surprised me. I thought that it was a Grampa Ott which are planted nearby. I did not get photos of the plant in the cotyledon stage but it looks the same as any other I. purpurea. I also kept poor records so the history is sketchy.

Hopefully I'll be able to get seeds off of it and try again next year.
